Fines for Failing to Comply

Beginning on July 1st, 2021, when a brand new, renewed or varied tenancy is signed for a Waipatu rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance items must be completed within 90 days.

Waipatu Healthy Homes Compliance Timeframes

Tenancies commenced beginning on 1 July 2019 and 30 , June 20,21

  • Insulation of the underfloor and ceiling is mandatory in all Waipatu and New Zealand rental houses where it is reasonably practicable to put in.
  • A Healthy Homes Intent to Comply Statement along with an Insulation Declaration and an Insurance Statement must be included in any new, renewed or amended tenancy agreement.

From 1 July 2021

  • Private landlords and property managers must make sure their rental properties conform to the Healthy Homes Standards within 90 days of any newly renewed, extended or changed tenant.
  • All the boarding homes (except Kainga Ora and Community Housing Providers with registered boarding household tenancies) are required to comply with Healthy Homes Standard regardless of when the tenancy began.

From July 1st 2023

  • All households let by Kainga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and registered Community Housing Providers must be in compliance with the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of when the tenancy began.

From July 1st 2024

  • All rentals houses must comply with the Healthy Homes Standard regardless of when the tenancy began.
