Fines for Failing to Comply

Beginning on July 1st, 2021, when a brand new or renewed tenancy is signed for a Te Mata Hills rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance tasks must be completed inside of 90 days.

Te Mata Hills Healthy Homes Compliance Timeframes

Tenancies that were signed from 1 July 2019 and the 30th June in 2021

  • Underfloor and ceiling insulation is required throughout Te Mata Hills and New Zealand rental houses where it is reasonably practicable to put in.
  • A Healthy Homes Intent to Comply Statement, an Insulation Statement and an Insurance Statement must be included in any renewed, new or varied tenancy agreement.
  • Property managers and landlords are required to keep records that prove the compliance with each Healthy Homes Standards that apply or will be applicable during the tenure of their rental properties.

Beginning 1 July 2021

  • Property managers and private landlords should make sure their rental properties conform according to Healthy Homes Standards within 90 days of any renewal, new or a change in Tenancy.
  • All the boarding houses (except Kainga Ora and registered Community Housing Provider for boarding home tenancies) are required to comply with Healthy Homes Standard regardless of the time the tenancy began.

From July 1st 2023

  • All households let from Kainga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and registered Community Housing Providers must meet the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of when the tenancy first began.

From 1 July 2024
