Fines for Failing to Comply

Beginning on July 1st, 2021, when a brand new or renewed contract is signed on a Poukawa rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance tasks have to be completed within 90 days.

Tenancies that were signed from 1 July 2019 to 30 , June 20,21

  • Ceiling and underfloor insulation is mandatory for all Poukawa and New Zealand rental homes where it is reasonably practicable to put in.
  • A Healthy Homes Intent to Comply Statement along with an Insulation Declaration and an Insurance Statement should be included with any new, renewed or altered tenancy contract.
  • Landlords and property managers must keep records that demonstrate conformance with each Healthy Homes Standards that apply or will be applied during the tenancy of your rental home.

From 1 July 2021

  • Private landlords and property managers should make sure their rental properties conform according to Healthy Homes Standard within 90 days of any renewal, new or a change in tenant.
  • All boarding houses (except Kainga Ora and Community Housing Providers with registered for boarding household tenancies) must adhere to the Healthy Homes Standard regardless of when the tenancy began.
