Tenancies established from 1 July 2019 and 30 , June 20,21

  • Ceiling and underfloor insulation is required in all Lochain and New Zealand rental homes where it’s reasonably practicable to install.
  • A Healthy Homes Intent to Comply Statement as well as an Insulation Statement, and an Insurance Statement must be included with any new, renewed or altered tenancy contract.
  • Property managers and landlords must keep records that prove the conformance to any Healthy Homes Standards that apply or will be in force during the tenancy of your rental home.

Beginning 1 July 2021

For most houses, larger fixed heating devices such as wood burners, heat pumps, pellet burners or flued gas heaters are needed. However, in some cases such as small apartments, a smaller fixed electric heater may be sufficient.

If your main living space already has a central heating source such as the heat pump, it might need some additional energy in order to comply with the standards. Certain kinds of heaters cannot be used to meet the quality as they are either inefficient, unaffordable to operate or are unsafe to operate.
