Fines for Failing to Comply

The person liable to pay this fine is the one who is listed on the tenancy agreement as the one who is letting the property out and it could be the name of the landlord or the property management company.

All the information on the Statement of Compliance needs to be current when the tenancy contract is signed, and ideally it should be maintained through the tenancy period as associated work has been completed.

It’s important to remember that landlords with multiple rental properties could face even higher fines for non-compliance. The most severe penalties are given for severe breaches, and landlords with six or more properties can be fined up to $50,000, and even as high as $100,000 in hearing claims.

Tenancies signed in the period between July 1st 2019 to 30 , June 20,21

  • Underfloor and ceiling insulation is mandatory throughout Hastings Central and New Zealand rental houses where it’s reasonably practicable to install.

However, in some cases like small apartment buildings, a smaller fixed electric heater may suffice.
